Women's soccer celebrated this year's success and its senior class at annual team banquet

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University women's soccer team held its annual soccer banquet on April 2, in honor of the team's success in the fall, as players and parents gathered for the luncheon and awards ceremony.

The 2016 team finished the season 8-9-1 and 4-3-1 in the Northeast Conference, setting a new program record seven shutouts and a 1.03 goals against average. The team also celebrated its first time recording back-to-back winning seasons in conference play in the Division I era.

The banquet included six major awards, as well as recognition for the six seniors that played in their final season in the fall. The senior class, including Kaitlyn Spangler (Acton, Mass.), Kianna Woods (Stafford Springs, Conn.), Kaylan Conrad (Avon, Conn.), Quinn Massaroni (East Greenbush, N.Y.), Abigail Smith (Kingston, N.H.) and Melaina Aglieco (Rocky Hill, Conn.) received their framed Bryant jerseys at the banquet.

The major award winners were voted on by the team and are as follows:
Offensive Player of the Year: Senior, Kianna Woods
Defensive Player of the Year: Senior, Kaylan Conrad
Most Valuable Player of the Year: Senior, Kaylan Conrad
Rookie of the Year: Freshman, Caitlyn Linden (Newtown, Conn.)
Most Improved Player of the Year: Senior, Kianna Woods
Core Values Person of the Year: Sophomore, Katie Nugent (Newton, Mass.)

The Bulldogs also celebrated their success in the classroom, finishing the fall semester with a 3.55 team GPA. From the team, 22 student-athletes were named to the NEC Academic Honor Roll, earning a GPA of 3.2 or higher. Of those, five were earned a place on the NEC's Commissioner's Honor Roll, holding a 3.75 GPA or higher.
