Benson called back to Puerto Rico Women’s National Team

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Scout Benson, a 2016 alumnus of the Bryant University women's soccer team, returned to the international pitch this spring, rejoining the Puerto Rico Women's National Team in training for the 2018 World Cup qualifying games.

Benson has been called back into the Puerto Rico Women's National Team pool, taking part in the team's training camp in Indiana.

"We have played Notre Dame, Ball State and St. Bonaventure," said Benson. "It was a trip for us to show who has the potential for the 2018 World Cup qualifiers."

This spring and summer, Benson will be playing with the Boston Breakers Reserve Team in the Women's Premiere Soccer League.  She will rejoin the national team for training at the end of August which also marks the end of the WPSL season.

The Puerto Rico Women's National Team has found a new head coach in Shek Borkowski, who previously served as the head coach of Haiti.

"It has been a pleasure to play for him [Borkowski]," said Benson. "I'm really excited to work with him again after the summer and dedicate myself to soccer entirely."

"Scout is a young player with a long-term future with the Puerto Rico Women's National Team," said Borkowski. "She is an athletic player with a great work ethic, and with more experience, she will be an important part of our long-term success."
