Dalton honored with NEC Defensive Player of the Week

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Freshman goalie Meghan Dalton (West Hartford, Conn.) was named Northeast Conference Defensive Player of the Week earlier today by the conference. For Dalton, it is the first honor of her young Bulldogs career after she just finished her second week of play.

For Dalton, it is the first honor of her young Bulldogs career after she just finished her second week of play.

She recorded four saves, including three in overtime, to preserve a tie against UMass Lowell on Wednesday afternoon. Two of them were highlight worthy, as she tipped a ball off the crossbar in the first OT and was able to stop a shot from point blank in the second period. Dalton's performance kept the game scoreless and she went on to earn the decision in the 0-0 draw.

Dalton also earned the win on Friday, when she kept Stetson off the scoresheet in the final 45 minutes in a come-from-behind 2-1 victory, helping the Bulldogs to their best start in Division I history.

Dalton takes home the Bulldogs' first NEC honor of the 2017 season and is the first Bryant player to win the Defensive Player of the Week award since Brigitte Donaghy (Toronto, Ontario) on October 3, 2016. She is the second consecutive goalie to win the award this season, with Central Connecticut's Ashley Cavanaugh winning the inaugural 2017 award last weekend.

Dalton and the Bulldogs continue their road trip Wednesday against Quinnipiac before returning to the Bulldog Soccer Field Sunday against Stony Brook.
