Dawgs improve to 2-0 at home after win over Marist

SMITHFIELD, R.I. - On Wednesday night the Bryant University women's soccer team finished out their September non-conference slate with a 2-0 at home against Marist.

This is the fastest the Black and Gold have recorded five shutouts since the 2017 season.

Coach's comments on the home win...

"Building on Sunday's game we continued to create more and more quality scoring opportunities each time out. Both of our goals were well taken and another very solid defensive performance from start to finish allowed us to close out the game with a shutout.

Scoring Summary

  • 41st minute - Bryant 1, Marist 0 - Makayla Griffin sent a corner to the back post which found Jennah Quill. Quill then redirected the ball to the top of the box where Ashley Cunningham was waiting. Cunningham used the inside of her foot to one time put the ball into the top right bin past the goalkeeper and a Marist defender.
  • 46th minute - Bryant 2, Marist 0 - Carly Warn played a through ball to Madison Luke who then took a shot that was saved by the goalkeeper. The ball spilled out however toa lurking Jordyn Collins who buried the ball into the net to double the Bulldogs' advantage.

Notes and Notables

  • Bryant has racked up five shutouts through eight games. No other team in the America East has had more than three so far this season.
  • This is the third consecutive game that the Black and Gold have scored two goals.
  • Freshman Ashley Cunningham's game-winning goal was the first of her college career.
  • Jordyn Collins joined Madison Luke as the only Bulldogs with multiple goals when she scored in the second half.
  • Bryant recorded a season high 18 shots in the game.
  • Goalkeeper Kathryn McNeil earned the win while making one save in the first half. Selena Negron took over in net for the second half and she made two saves.
