Five named to CSC Academic All-District Team

SMITHFIELD, R.I. - Five members of the Bryant University women's soccer team were named to the 2023 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District team on Tuesday afternoon.

Senior Makayla Griffin, juniors Hailey Koons and Samantha Breton, and sophomores Emily Supple and Madison Luke were all a part of the All-District team.

The Academic All-District teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.

Griffin, a biology major, has maintained academic excellence over her four years at Bryant. She has a 3.89 GPA and has earned America East Commissioner's Honor Roll, president's list honors, and dean's list honors on multiple occasions. On the field, the Wrentham, Massachusetts native started all 16 games in the Black and Gold midfield. Griffin also co-led the team in goals (3) and tallied an assist to put herself at second on the team in points (7) on the 2023 campaign.

Koons appeared in all 16 games for the Bulldogs as a key player off the bench. The midfielder from Standish, Maine scored her first career goal this season which was also the game-winning goal against UAlbany. In the classroom, Koons was previously named to the America East Commissioner's Honor Roll and the dean's list. She holds a 3.77 GPA while majoring in marketing.

Breton became a staple of the Bryant defense this season, playing at least 80 minutes in every game. She helped lead the Bulldogs to a league leading .75 goals allowed average and eight shutouts.On top of that, Breton totaled two goals and an assist. Chicopee, Massachusetts was also named as the America East Defensive Player of the Week for the week of 9/11. Breton has been a force in the classroom as well, accumulating a 3.61 GPA and dean's list honors while majoring in health sciences.

Luke, a business administration major, carries a 3.78 GPA and has previously earned America East Commissioner's Honor Roll and dean's list accolades.On the pitch, the Clinton, New York native played in every game and started 13. Luke registered two goals and two assists to total six points on the 2023 campaign while playing in the attacking midfield role for the Black and Gold.

Supple took over a starting role in the midfield this season. She played in 13 games and made 11 starts. Supple also tallied an assist against Stonehill. Off the field, the marketing major has worked her way to a 3.76 GPA and has been previously recognized for her academic excellence. She has been named to the America East Commissioner's Honor Roll, president's list, and dean's list.
