BRYANT WOMEN’S SWIMMING NAMES 2010 TEAM CAPTAINS

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant University head swimming coach Katie Cameron is pleased to announce the 2010-11 team captains as voted on by the members of this year’s returning class:  senior Amy Howell (Clifton Park, N.Y. / Shenandoah) and senior Jill Squillante (Sayville, N.Y. / Sayville).

Jill Squillante '11 (left) and Amy Howell '11 (right) were named Bryant women's swimming team captains for 2010-11.

Howell and Squillante have played key roles in leading the Bulldogs into the Division I waters and the program’s first two years competing as members of the Northeast Conference.  The Bulldogs finished fifth at the NEC meet in 2009 and this past fall moved up one spot with a fourth-place finish at the conference championships in February.

Howell has been a key contributor in the distance events during her career with the Bulldogs. This past season, she swam a season-best time of 19:06.92 in the 1650 free at the NEC Conference Championships, the third-fastest time this season for the Bulldogs in the event.

Squillante entered this past year’s conference meet ranked in the top 10 in the NEC in the 50 backstroke with a time of 29.81. At the meet, she was part of the 200 freestyle relay team that captured third place in a school record time of 1:38.27 as well as the school-record breaking 200 medley relay team that finished fourth.
