NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Thursday's opening day performance at the 2010 Northeast Conference Swimming Championships could have been considered hard to top.  But factor in Friday's performance by the Bulldogs, and it could be said that Bryant is making some serious noise at the conference championships.

For starters, eight individuals had school record performances during Day 2 of the Conference Championships at Yale University on Friday, including the fastest time in the history of the league championships by a standout freshman.

A day after capturing the conference title in the 50 freestyle, Bryant freshman Casey Ostrander (Yarmouthport, MA/Barnstable) did it again in the Friday in the 100 backstroke with a time of 56.47 to claim gold.

Ostrander took first-place in the 100 backstroke prelims, shattering her school record of 58.87 by more than two seconds with a blazing time of 56.82 seconds which also bettered the NEC record of 57.02 seconds.  But in the finals, the Bulldog standout reached even further, winning the title with a time of 56.47 seconds just ahead of runner up Elise Merrill of Saint Francis (PA).

Teammate Jill Squillante (Sayville, N.Y./ Sayville) was eighth in the prelims while Brianne Dwyer (Hicksville, N.Y. / Saint Anthony's) was 10th.

In the 100 breaststroke, Dwyer qualified for the finals with a time of 1:09.85 seconds in the preliminaries and in the finals, the Bulldog finished seventh overall in a new school record time of 1:07.65.

A pair of Bulldogs had great performances in the 200 freestyle Friday. Kim Carballeira  (East Setauket, N.Y. / Ward Melville) took eighth in the prelims of the event setting a new school record with a time of 1:58.93 and had an incredible finals where she set the record even higher with a time of 1:56.65 to capture eighth overall.

Amy D'Olympia (Mattapoisett, Mass.) had a fine pair of races in the 200 free.  The sophomore placed ninth in the prelims in a time of 1:59.36 that was better than the school record mark and finished 10th in the finals in 1:59.51.

In the 100 butterfly, Abby Whittaker (Salisbury, Mass. / St. Thomas Aquinas) bettered her school record of 1:00.61 with a time of 59.42 in the prelims to finish fifth.  She would finish fifth in the finals in 59.75.

In the 400 individual medley, freshman Molly Smith (Belmont, Mass. / Belmont) earned a bronze medal thanks in part to two record breaking performances.  In the prelims, Smith, who entered the championships with four school records all her own, placed third in a new school record time of 4:37.59.  But in the finals, Smith set the bar even higher with a new school record of 4:36.27 to take home third overall.

Earlier, the Bryant 200 medley relay squad of Ostrander, Dwyer, Whittaker and Squillante set a new school record with a time of 1:49.35 to capture fourth while the 800 freestyle relay team placed fourth in 7:56.32.
