Women's swimming visits NU Wednesday
SMITHFIELD, R.I. – After competing in a non-scoring match Sunday, the Bryant University women's swimming team is back to action as it heads up I-95 to take on Northeastern University in Boston, Mass. on Wednesday, Oct. 26, at 5:00 p.m. The meet with the Huskies will mark the first-ever meeting between the two squads.
Since opening the season with an impressive, 136-126, win over ACC opponent Boston College back on October 14, the Bulldogs (1-1) are currently in the middle of a stretch of four-straight meets away from the friendly confines of the Chace Athletic Center.
Last Sunday, junior Casey Ostrander (Yarmouthport, Mass.) took first-place honors in the 50 meter freestyle at the non-scoring New England Collegiate Challenge held at Harvard University held this past weekend.
A winner of four-of-six individual events during the opening weekend against BC and Wagner, Ostrander swam the 50 meters in a time of 27.91, beating Harvard's Ellie Johnson (28.20) by less than a second. She also finished third in the 100 meter back and sixth in the 100 meter free.
Northeastern, a member of the Colonial Athletic Association, also enters Wednesday's showdown with a 1-1 record having also defeated the cross-town rival Eagles, 225-75, earlier this season. On that same day, the Huskies dropped a 158-141 decision to the University of Houston as part of the tri-meet.
Following Wednesday's dual-meet, the Huskies will head to Fairfax, VA., to take part in the annual CAA Pod Meet hosted by George Mason with James Madison, Old Dominion, William & Mary, and George Mason competing.
For the Bulldogs, they'll head north to Durham, N.H., this Saturday for a tri-meet with NEC rival Central Connecticut State and host University of New Hampshire starting at 2 pm.
