Bulldogs ease past SFC, 187-66

FRESHMEN LEAD BULLDOGS PAST ST. FRANCIS BROOKLYN, 187-66

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University women's swimming and diving team won every event in its first meet in over a month, cruising past St. Francis Brooklyn, 187-66, on Sunday (Jan. 13).

The Bulldogs (7-2) received first-place finishes from 10 different swimmers on the afternoon, including four freshmen. Senior Casey Ostrander (Yarmouthport, Mass.) and junior Taylor DeBever (Denver, Colo.) each added a pair of victories for the Black and Gold.

Ostrander won the 50 back (27.78), the 100 fly (1:00.58) and swam the lead leg of the winning 400 free relay team. DeBever claimed the 200 IM (2:16.86), the 100 back (1:02.18) and followed Ostrander in the pool on the winning 400 free relay team. Seniors Molly Smith (Belmont, Mass.) and Brianne Dwyer (Hicksville, N.Y.) both added victories in the 100 breast (1:11.11) and the 500 free (5:35.42), respectively.

Bryant's was also aided by a stellar showing from its freshman class. Elisabeth Schauer (Pelham, N.Y.), Maria Messina (Canandaigua, N.Y.), Dana Yu (Bridgewater, N.J.) and Kristie Chan (San Francisco, Calif.) all picked up victories for the Black and Gold. Schauer won the 200 free (2:02.53), Messina won the 1000 free (11:10.96), Yu won the 50 fly (27.19) and Chan won the 100 free (55.71).

The Bulldogs are back in the pool this weekend when they travel to Amherst, Mass., to face Massachusetts on Saturday, Jan. 19.
