RECORD 11 BULLDOGS GRAB ALL-NEC HONORS

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Led by four-time Northeast Conference Swimmer of the Year Casey Ostrander (Yarmouthport, Mass.), 11 members of the Bryant University women's swimming and diving team were named all-conference, the league announced on Tuesday.

Two weeks ago, the Bulldogs registered their best finish at the NECs in program history, finishing third with 669.5 points. Bryant swimmers took home three individual gold medals and the 200 and 400 free relay teams both won gold, setting conference records in the process. All-conference recognition is bestowed upon the top three finishers in each individual event and relay.

The most accomplished swimmer in program history, Ostrander headlines the all-conference honorees as the first-ever four-time swimmer of the year in conference history. She earned First Team All-NEC in the 50 free and 200 back, and Second Team All-NEC in the 100 back. Junior Taylor DeBever (Denver, Colo.) also received First Team All-NEC honors in the 200 free and senior Molly Smith (Belmont, Mass.) was named First Team All-NEC in the 200 breast.

Bryant put four swimmers on the All-NEC Second Team and two on the All-NEC Third Team. DeBever was second team in the 500 free, freshman Lauren Doerrman (Oley, Pa.) in the 400 IM, Ostrander in the 100 back and freshman Elisabeth Schauer (Pelham, N.Y.) in the 200 back. Schauer also earned third team honors in the 100 back. Sophomore Alexandra Morreale (Short Hills, N.J.) earned third team honors in the 100 breast.

Four of Bryant's relay teams also earned All-NEC honors. The 200 free relay team of junior Kaitlin Buckley (Duxbury, Mass.), freshman Dana Yu (Bridgewater, N.J.), DeBever and Ostrander earned first team honors after setting a conference record with a time of 1:34.22. Freshman Kristie Chan (San Francisco, Calif.) then joined Buckley, DeBever and Ostrander on the 400 free relay team that grabbed first team honors with a conference-record time of 3:25.14. Both of Bryant's medley relay teams earned Second Team All-NEC honors. Freshman Jamie Schaefer (Durham, N.C.) joined DeBever, Ostrander and Morreale in the 200 medley relay, and freshman Julia Messina (Canandaigua, N.Y.) joined DeBever, Ostrander and Yu in the 400 medley relay.
