Bulldogs defeat BC, 139-123, Friday night

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University women's swimming and diving team opened up the 2013-14 season with a 139-123 victory over Boston College on Friday night at the Chace Athletic Center Pool.

The Bulldogs (1-0) have now defeated the Eagles (0-1) each of the last three years.

In their season opener, the Black and Gold were paced by a pair of first-place finishes from sophomore Lauren Doerrman (Oley, Pa.), classmate Elisabeth Schauer (Pelham, N.Y.) and freshman Erin Daly (Reading, Mass.). Doerrman claimed the 1000 (10:46.55) and the 200 IM (2:14.87), Schauer won both the 100 (1:00.29) and 200 (2:09.20) back and Daly won the 200 (1:56.24) and the 500 (5:17.70) in her first collegiate meet.

Bryant also received first-place finishes from junior Alexandra Morreale (Short Hills, N.J.) in the 100 breast (1:09.23) and the 200 medley relay (1:51.00). Schauer, Morreale, Dana Yu (Bridgewater, N.J.) and Taylor Poliseno (Stevenson Ranch, Calif.) combined to take home first place in the relay. Poliseno put together a strong first meet as well, finishing second in the 50 free (24.74) and the 100 free (54.38).

The Bulldogs return to action on October 19 when they travel to Staten Island, N.Y., to face Wagner.
