Bulldogs fall to Wagner Saturday

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Sophomore Elisabeth Schauer (Pelham, N.Y.) won the 200 back and finished second in the 100 back but it wasn't enough as Wagner earned a 153-101 victory over the Bryant University women's swimming and diving team on Saturday morning at the Wagner College Pool.

The Bulldogs (1-1) won just one event on the day against the Seahawks (3-0). Wagner was the top team in the Northeast Conference preseason poll, receiving four first-place votes.

One of the top backstrokers in the conference, Schauer finished second in the 100 back with a time of 1:00.58. She came back strong in the 200 back, winning the event with a time of 2:08.53, over three seconds faster than the next swimmer.

Bryant also received strong performances from a pair of freshmen. Erin Daly (Reading, Mass.) finished third in the 1000 (10:49.02) before coming right back to finish third in the 200 free with a time of 1:58.96. Classmate Meghan Claflin (Newburyport, Mass.) earned a second-place finish in the 500 free with a time of 5:19.49.

The Bulldogs return home this week when they host Providence on Friday, Oct. 25. The meet is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m.
