Bulldogs fall to UVM on Sunday

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Sophomore Lauren Doerrman (Oley, Pa.) won two more events and classmate Jamie Schaefer (Durham, N.C.) also added a victory but it wasn't enough as Vermont topped the Bryant University women's swimming and diving team, 169.5-114.5, on Sunday afternoon at Forbush Natatorium.

The meet was the second of the weekend for the Bulldogs (4-3) and they have yet to defeat the Catamounts (6-4) in program history.

Two days after winning three events against Maine, Doerrman won the 1000 free and the 200 IM against Vermont. She claimed the 1000 with a time of 10:43.90 and then won the 200 IM with a time of 2:13.54. Doerrman also earned a second-place finish in the 500 free with a time of 5:16.90. Schaefer claimed the only other first-place finish for the Bulldogs, winning the 200 fly with a time of 2:08.82. Bryant received a strong performance from sophomore Julia Messina (Canandaigua, N.Y.) as well. She finished second in both the 100 (1:10.59) and 200 (2:32.60) breast events.

The Bulldogs are right back in the pool this weekend as they compete in the URI Invitational on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 22-23 in Kingston, R.I.
