Bulldogs beat Holy Cross on Senior Day

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Senior Taylor DeBever (Denver, Colo.) won a pair of events in the final home swim meet of her career as the Bryant University women's swimming and diving team defeated Holy Cross, 174-82, on Saturday at the Chace Athletic Center.

Prior to the meet, the Bulldogs (6-6) honored their two seniors, DeBever and Kaitlin Buckley (Duxbury, Mass.).

DeBever was dominant in her own pool on Saturday, winning the 50 back (28.65) and the 100 back (1:00.23). She was one of several Bulldogs to take home two first-place finishes as sophomore Julia Messina (Canandaigua, N.Y.), freshman Taylor Poliseno (Stevenson Ranch, Calif.), sophomore Dana Yu (Bridgewater, N.J.) and sophomore Lauren Doerrman (Oley, Pa.) all won a pair of events. Messina won the 50 breast (32.18) and 100 breast (1:10.60), Poliseno won the 200 free (1:58.25) and tied Yu in the 50 free (25.19), Yu added a victory in the 50 fly (26.81) and Doerrman won the 500 free (5:21.51) and the 200 IM (2:17.49).

The Bulldogs also received first-place finishes from Maria Messina (Canandaigua, N.Y.), Samantha Torrez (Whittier, Calif.) and Kristie Chan (San Francisco, Calif.). Messina won the 1000 (11:10.25), Torrez won the 100 fly (1:01.02) and Chan won the 100 free (55.36).

Bryant will compete at the UConn Invitational next Saturday, Feb. 8 before beginning its preparations for the Northeast Conference championship meet. The meet will be held at MIT in Cambridge, Mass., from Feb. 19-22.
