Bulldogs grab two relay medals on day one of NECs

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University women's swimming and diving team grabbed a pair of medals in the 200 medley and 800 free relay to open the Northeast Conference Championships on Wednesday night at MIT.

The Bulldogs are in third place after day one thanks to a second-place finish in the 800 free relay and a third-place finish in the 200 medley relay. With 66 points, Bryant trails Wagner (74) and Saint Francis U. (70).

Bryant's opening-day performance was highlighted by a historic feat in the 800 free relay as the Bulldogs earned their first-ever medal in the event with second-place finish. Erin Daly (Reading, Mass.), Taylor DeBever (Denver, Colo.), Meghan Claflin (Newburyport, Mass.) and Kaitlin Buckley (Duxbury, Mass.) led the Black and Gold to a silver medal as they shattered the previous school record by eight seconds, touching the wall with a time of 7:29.80. In the first event of the meet, Elisabeth Schauer (Pelham, N.Y.), Alexandra Morreale (Short Hills, N.J.), Dana Yu (Bridgewater, N.J.) and DeBever won a bronze medal with a time of 1:43.92.

The NEC Championships continue on Thursday with individual events beginning at 11:00 a.m.
