Bulldogs still in third after day two of NECs

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Senior Taylor DeBever (Denver, Colo.) won an individual bronze medal and helped the 200 free relay to a bronze medal on day two of the Northeast Conference Championships Thursday at MIT.

The Bulldogs are in third place with 207 points after two days of competition. Wagner holds a commanding lead with 297 points and Central Connecticut is in second with 214 points.

Already a six-time individual medal winner, DeBever earned her seventh medal with a third-place finish in the 500 free. She finished with a time of 4:58.54. DeBever followed by helping the 200 free relay team grab a bronze in the final event of the evening. She teamed with Taylor Poliseno (Stevenson Ranch, Calif.), Dana Yu (Bridgewater, N.J.) and Kaitlin Buckley (Duxbury, Mass.) to touch the wall with a time of 1:35.52.

Other top finishers for the Bulldogs included Erin Daly (Reading, Mass.), Lauren Doerrman (Oley, Pa.), Samantha Torrez (Whittier, Calif.), Julia Messina (Canandaigua, N.Y.) and Kristie Chan (San Francisco, Calif.). Daly finished fourth in the 500 free (4:59.62), Doerrman finished sixth in the 200 IM (2:06.31), Torrez and Messina finished 14-15 in the 200 IM (2:10.56 and 2:11.36) and Chan finished 16th in the 50 free (25.04). In addition to their performances in the 200 free, Yu, Poliseno and Buckley finished 6-8 in the 50 free. Yu finished with a time of 24.15, Poliseno touched at 24.19 and Buckley finished with a time of 24.23. Courtney Tardif (Windham, N.H.) and Kailey Frye (Lakeville, Mass.) finished 7-8 in the 1 meter dive with scores of 161.70 and 156.55, respectively.

Day three of the NEC Championships begins with preliminary heats at 11:00 a.m. on Friday.
