Bulldogs compete in day one of Harold Anderson Invite

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University women's swimming and diving team opened up competition in the Harold Anderson Invitational on Friday night at URI.

The Bulldogs received several outstanding individual performances on the first day of competition. Valeria Watson (Mexico City, Mexico) finished seventh in the 500 free with a time of 5:11.60, while teammate Erin Daly (Reading, Mass.) finished right behind her in eighth place (5:13.07). Nicole Salzano (Elmwood Park, N.J.) gave the Black and Gold three swimmers in the top 10 as she swam a season-best time of 5:15.41.

Lauren Doerrman (Oley, Pa.) gave the women a top 10 finish in the 200 IM as she finished ninth with a time of 2:12.96, her best time this season. Classmate Dana Yu (Bridgewater, N.J.) continued her strong start to the season as she finished 12th in the 50 free with a time of 25.28. Taylor Poliseno (Stevenson Ranch, Calif.) was right behind her, finishing 15th with a time of 25.45.

Bryant was able to close the meet with a strong performance in the 200 free relay. Kristie Chan (San Francisco, Calif.), Yu, Mackenzie Kirk (San Jose, Calif.) and Mara Valenzuela (Bridgewater, N.J.) combined to finish fifth with a time of 1:39.65. It is the fastest relay time for the Bulldogs this season.

In diving, Allison Yennaco (Londonderry, N.H.) paced the Bulldogs with a fourth-place finish in the 1 meter. She scored a season-high 173.80 points. Kailey Frye (Lakeville, Mass.) finished seventh in the event.
