Bulldogs down St. Francis on Thursday

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University women's swimming and diving team won all but two events on its way to a victory over Northeast Conference foe St. Francis Brooklyn Thursday afternoon.

Following the victory, the Bulldogs embarked on their annual training trip to Puerto Rico. The Black and Gold will spend the next week improving before returning to face UMass next Saturday the 17th.

Bryant received several outstanding performances on Thursday against the Terriers, including a pair of first-place finishes from senior Mara Valenzuela (Bridgewater, N.J.). She won the 200 free (1:58.99) and the 100 free (54.85).

The Black and Gold also earned first-place finishes in the 50 free, 200 IM, 100 fly, 100 back, 100 breast, both diving events and both relays. Dana Yu (Bridgewater, N.J.) won the 50 free (25.74), Lauren Doerrman (Oley, Pa.) won the 200 IM (2:17.65) and Jamie Schaefer (Durham, N.C.) claimed the 100 fly (1:00.56). Nicole Salzano (Elmwood Park, N.J.) won the 100 back (1:00.59), Samantha Hilton (Fairfield, Conn.) won the 100 breast and Allison Yennaco (Londonderry, N.H.) won both the 1 meter (194.75) and 3 meter dives (188.95).

In the relays, Salzano, Alexandra Morreale (Short Hills, N.J.), Yu and Mackenzie Kirk (San Jose, Calif.) won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:53.24. Valenzuela, Valeria Watson (Mexico City, Mexico), Schaefer and Taylor Poliseno (Stevenson Ranch, Calif.) won the 200 free relay with a time of 1:41.72.
