WSWM picks up first dual meet victory Friday night

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University women's swimming and diving team received an outstanding team performance on its way to a dominant 151-111 victory over Providence Friday night at the Chace Athletic Center Pool.

Behind a pair of victories from Nicole Salzano (Elmwood Park, N.J.), Julia Messina (Canandaigua, N.Y.), Lauren Doerrman (Oley, Pa.) and Jillian Rice (Trumbull, Conn.), the Bulldogs were able to pick up their first dual meet victory of the season. Salzano won the 100 and 200 back, Messina won the 100 and 200 breast, Doerrman won the 200 fly and 200 IM and Rice claimed the 50 and 100 free.

In addition, the Bulldogs also claimed the 400 medley and 200 free relay events. Salzano, Messina, Jamie Schaefer (Durham, N.C.) and Kristie Chan (San Francisco, Calif.) teamed up to win the 400 medley relay, while Chan, Rice, Emilie Despres (Needham, Mass.) and Valeria Watson (Mexico City, Mexico) combined to win the 200 free relay.

The Bulldogs are back in action on Saturday night when they take on Colgate at the Chace Athletic Center Pool. The meet is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m.
