Rice wins twice but Bulldogs nipped late by Colgate

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Freshman Jillian Rice (Trumbull, Conn.) won a pair of events but the Bryant University women's swimming and diving team was nipped by Colgate, 137-125, on Saturday night at the Chace Athletic Center Pool.

The Bulldogs were on top but the Raiders were able to win the final two events and win the meet.

Rice continued her strong freshman season by sweeping the sprint free events for the second-straight night. Rice won the 50 and 100 free against the Raiders after winning both events against Providence. Valeria Watson (Mexico City, Mexico) won the 200 free and Julia Messina (Canandaigua, N.Y.) claimed the 100 breast. Rice also finished second in the 200 free and Messina placed second in the 200 breast. Nicole Salzano (Elmwood Park, N.J.) finished second in the both the 100 and 200 back events.

Bryant returns to the pool next Saturday when they host Iona on Halloween at the Chace Athletic Center Pool.
