Watson leads Bulldogs to victory over Iona on Saturday

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Sophomore Valeria Watson (Mexico City, Mexico) won three events to lead the Bryant University women's swimming and diving team to a 162-100 victory over Iona on Saturday at the Chace Athletic Center Pool.

Watson dominated Saturday's meet with the Gaels, winning the 200 free, 200 back and 500 free. She won the 200 free with a time of 1:57.90, the 200 back with a time of 2:12.18 and the 500 free with a time of 5:15.60.

The Bulldogs also received first-place finishes from Nicole Salzano (Elmwood Park, N.J.), Julia Messina (Canandaigua, N.Y.), Jamie Schaefer (Durham, N.C.), Kristie Chan (San Francisco, Calif.) and Samantha Torrez (Whittier, Calif.). Salzano won the 1000 free and the 100 back, Messina claimed the 100 breast, Schaefer won the 200 fly, Chan took the 50 free and Torrez won the 100 fly.

Bryant also won the 200 medley relay to open the meet. Salzano, Messina, Taylor Poliseno (Stevenson Ranch, Calif.) and Chan teamed up to win the event with a time of 1:50.77.
