Bulldogs fall to Central Conn. despite Abernethy's two victories

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Freshman diver Kelci Abernethy (Chandler, Ariz.) won both the 1 and 3 meter dives but Central Connecticut was able to defeat the Bryant University women's swimming and diving team on Friday night in New Britain.

Abernethy continued the incredible start to her career with a dominating performance Friday night. She won the 1 meter dive and nearly broke the school record with a score of 237.37. Abernethy then went on to win the 3 meter dive with a score of 230.63.

The duo of Mackenzie Kirk (San Jose, Calif.) and Lauren Doerrman (Oley, Pa.) finished 1-2 in the 1000 free. Kirk won the event with a season-best time of 10:48.65. Freshman Jillian Rice (Trumbull, Conn.) also had a strong performance, winning the 50 free and finishing second in the 100 and 200 free. She won the 50 free with a time of 24.47. Nicole Salzano (Elmwood Park, N.J.) finished second in both back events and in the 500 free.

Bryant returns to the pool in two weeks when it competes in the Harold Anderson Invitational hosted by Rhode Island.
