Abernethy wins both dives, Bulldogs finish fifth at Harold Anderson Invite

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University women's swimming and diving team finished fifth at the Harold Anderson Invitational following a strong performance during session two on Saturday.

Freshman Jillian Rice (Trumbull, Conn.) performed well on Saturday, finishing third in the 200 free and the 100 free. Julia Messina (Canandaigua, N.Y.) finished third in the 100 breast and Lauren Doerrman (Oley, Pa.) and Mackenzie Kirk (San Jose, Calif.) finished 6-7 in the 400 IM. Kirk also added a ninth-place finish in the 1650 free.

Other top performers included all four freshmen divers, Nicole Salzano (Elmwood Park, N.J.) and Valeria Watson (Mexico City, Mexico). Kelci Abernethy (Chandler, Ariz.) won the 3-meter dive with a score of 233.55. She won both the 1- and 3-meter dive on the weekend. Carissa Stemen (Naples, Fla.), Ann Burdick (Glenmont, N.Y.) and Stephanie Jennings (Elmont, N.Y.) finished 3-4-5 in the event. Salzano and Watson finished 6-7 in the 200 back.
