Bulldogs fall to BU on Saturday in Boston

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Senior Julia Messina (Canandaigua, N.Y.) took home a first-place finish in the 100 breast but the Bryant University women's swimming and diving team was defeated by Boston University, 219-95, on Saturday afternoon in Boston.

Messina was the only Bulldog to take home a victory on Saturday, winning the 100 breast with a time of 1:07.89.

Several others posted strong performances on Saturday, led by Nicole Salzano (Elmwood Park, N.J.). Salzano finished second in the 100 and 200 back events, posting times of 59.57 and 2:05.76, respectively. Erin Daly (Reading, Mass.) also performed well, finishing second in the 1000 free (10:25.54), third in the 500 free (5:07.72) and fourth in the 200 free (1:56.00).

Carissa Stemen (Naples, Fla.) and Ann Burdick (Glenmont, N.Y.) were Bryant's top two divers on the afternoon. Stemen finished fourth in the 1 meter with a total of 224.55 points.  Burdick finished fourth in the 3 meter with a score of 221.10.

The Black and Gold return to the pool Saturday, Jan. 30 when they host Holy Cross.
