Bulldogs dominate Iona Saturday afternoon

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University women's swimming and diving team won all but two events on its way to a dominating 215-79 victory over Iona on Saturday afternoon in New Rochelle, N.Y.

With the victory, the Bulldogs improve to a perfect 4-0 on the year.

Freshmen Eliza Brant (Hauppauge, N.Y.) and Domenica Alcala (Cancun, Mexico), junior Nicole Salzano (Elmwood Park, N.J.), sophomore Jillian Rice (Trumbull, Conn.) and senior Erin Daly (Reading, Mass.) all won two events on the afternoon. Brant won the 100 breast (1:07.91) and the 200 breast (2:27.19), Alcala won the 100 fly (1:00.26) and the 200 fly (2:13.60), Salzano won the 100 back (59.80) and the 200 back (2:08.82) and Daly won the 1000 free (10:44.21) and the 200 free (1:57.15). Rice picked up victories in the 50 free (24.51), the 100 free (54.01) and the 500 free (5:17.42).

Bryant also excelled in the diving events. Ann Burdick (Glenmont, N.Y.) won the 1 meter dive with a score of 234.83 and was followed by Kelci Abernethy (Chandler, Ariz.) and Carissa Stemen (Naples, Fla.). Abernethy won the 3 meter dive with a score of 268.05 and was followed by Burdick (who set a personal best) and Stemen.

The Bulldogs are back in action next weekend when they compete against Northeast Conference rivals Central Connecticut and Wagner in New Britain, Conn.
