Bulldogs fall to Vermont on Sunday afternoon

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University women's swimming and diving team was defeated by the University of Vermont, 164.5-93.5, on Sunday afternoon at the Chace Athletic Center Pool.

With the loss, the Bulldogs are now 4-5 on the season.

Junior Mackenzie Kirk (San Jose, Calif.) gave Bryant its only victory of the afternoon as she won the 1000 free. She posted a time of 10:49.09, winning the event by nearly seven seconds. Senior Erin Daly (Reading, Mass.) finished second to Kirk in the 1000 free with a time of 10:56.86.

The Bulldogs also received strong performances from Jillian Rice (Trumbull, Conn.), Nicole Salzano (Elmwood Park, N.J.) and Eliza Brant (Hauppauge, N.Y.). Rice finished second in the 100 free and third in the 50 free and the 200 free.

Salzano swam well in the back events, finishing second in the 200 back and third in the 100 back.

Brant had a busy afternoon, swimming in both breast events and the 200 IM. She finished second in the 200 IM and third in both the 100 and 200 breast.

The Bulldogs return to the pool on Friday when they head to URI for the Harold Anderson Invitational.
