Bulldogs win 800 free relay, synchronized diving on first night of WPI Invite

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University women's swimming and diving team won the synchronized diving event and the 800 free relay on the opening night of the WPI Invitational Friday in Worcester.

The Bulldogs are currently in second with 587 points. Host WPI leads the 13-team field with 746 points.

Valeria Watson (Mexico City, Mexico), Nicole Salzano (Elmwood Park, N.J.), Erin Daly (Reading, Mass.) and Jillian Rice (Trumbull, Conn.) combined to win the 800 free relay with a time of 7:36.75.

In the 1650 free, Mackenzie Kirk (San Jose, Calif.) finished sixth (17:56.10) and Daly finished 12th (18:22.20).

Carissa Stemen (Naples, Fla.) and Ann Burdick (Glenmont, N.Y.) took home the 25m synchronized diving event for the second-straight year. Stephanie Jennings (Elmont, N.Y.) and Ashley Lewis (Maple Valley, Wash.) teamed up to finish second in the event.
