Bryant ready for competition in Harold Anderson Invite

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Looking to get back on track before Thanksgiving, the Bryant University women's swimming and diving team heads down I-95 to Kingston for the 22nd annual Harold Anderson Invitational.

First Race: 5:00 p.m. EST Friday / 10:30 a.m. EST Saturday

NEC Swimmer of the Week Alaina Scifo (Ipswich, Great Britain) won three races, including the 100 back and 200 back, while NEC Diver of the Week Stephanie Jennings (Elmont, N.Y.) claimed a pair of Top 3 finishes, but the Bulldogs fell to Vermont 172-118.

Last Time at the Harold Anderson Invite

Junior Jillian Rice (Trumbull, Conn.), who was just honored as the CollegeSwimming NEC Swimmer of the Week, won the 50 free and 100 free for the Bulldogs, leading them to a fourth-place finish after the team finished the two-day event with 566 points.

A bit about the competition

  • Assumption:
    • The Greyhounds are on a four-meet winning streak and have yet to lose a dual meet this season.
    • Junior Shannon Quirk earned a first-place finish in the 1650 free against Sacred Heart with a pool-record time of 17:51.59.
    • Freshman Anne Guadalupi and sophomore Sydney Rangulong finished first and second respectively in both the 50 and 100-yard backstrokes leading the Greyhounds to win the Worcester City Championship.
  • Holy Cross:
    • The Crusaders are 3-1 this season in dual meets and are coming off a win against Sacred Heart.
    • Sophomore Kayleigh Hoagland led the Crusaders to victory with three first-place finishes in the 100 back, 100 free, and as a member of the 200 Medley Relay team.
    • Sophomore Kayleigh Hoagland received the Female Swimmer of the Meet Award at the Worcester City Championships with meet records in the 50 free and 200 free. The Crusaders finished second among four.
  • Maine:
    • The Black Bears are 1-1 on the season with a win against Rhode Island and a loss against Vermont.
    • Junior Shayla Rose Klesinger and sophomore Emma Blair both received swimmer of the meet honors in their victory over URI in the season opener.
    • The Black Bears are coming off a loss to Vermont in which they only recorded first-place finishes in the 100-yard butterfly and the 200-yard freestyle relay.
  • Providence:
    • The Friars are 1-3 on the season with their first win coming against Iona earlier this week.
    • Senior Katie Fallon earned three first-place finishes in the win, winning the 200 free, 400 free and she was a part of the winning 400 free relay team.
    • Freshman Lauren Zawacki finished first in the 50 free in a school-record time of 26.84 against Fairfield earlier this month. That record was untouched for 27 years.
  • URI:
    • The Rams are .600 on the season with a season-opening loss to Maine, followed by three straight wins and a loss to New Hampshire on Nov. 4.
    • Sophomore Caitlin Guccione earned two of the Ram's four first-place finishes in both the 100 fly and the 200 fly during their meet with New Hampshire.
    • Senior Hannah Homans finished first in the 50 back as well as the 100 back en route to a Rams victory over Providence.
