Bulldogs Finish Second, Third at America East Championships

WORCESTER, Mass.- The Bryant swimming and diving teams closed the America East Championships on a strong note, winning seven medals on the final day of competition to clinch a pair of top-three finishes. The women's team came home second while the men finished third.

Kyri Chambo was named Diver of the Meet after winning gold and silver in the two diving events, while Erin Doruska won the Elite 18 Award for athletic and academic excellence. The Bulldogs won two golds on Saturday, with Leo Luna taking the mile and Griffin Lajoie winning the 200 backstroke.

Bulldog Notes and Notables

  • Natalia Kuipers opened the night with a bronze winning swim in the mile, hitting the wall at 17:05.11. Makayla Pearce was close behind, finishing fourth.

  • Luna won his second straight title in the mile, backing up last year's NEC gold with a winning swim of 15:26.72. Tyler Stringfellow finished seventh.

  • Griffin Lajoie took his second backstroke win of the week with a 1:46.75 in the 200. Roman San Juan also finished fifth in the A-Final.

  • Conner Lofstrom won his second freestyle silver of the meet with a 44.71 in the 100. 

  • Sammi Grenon won her third and final individual medal of the week in the 200 fly, swimming a 2:02.88. Julia Stenhard finished fifth.

  • Both 400 free relay teams took bronze to close the meet. The women's team of Doruska, Jill Carline, Laurel Carey, and Marcella Figueroa swam a 3:26.34, while the men's quartet of Lofstrom, Alex Rowson, Chase Konstantakos, and Mason Campbell swam a 3:01.49.

  • Reagan Lord (fifth, 200 back), Figueroa (fourth, 100 free), Doruska (sixth, 100 free), Carline (seventh, 100 free), Nellie Clark (sixth, 200 breast), Andrew Gamper (fifth, 200 fly), and Jake Williams (seventh, 200 fly) also scored in the A-Finals.
