Bryant blanks Holy Cross, 7-0, Saturday

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – In its first dual match of the 2014-15 regular season, the Bryant University women's tennis team dominated Holy Cross start to finish to pick up the 7-0 victory Saturday morning at the Bryant Tennis Courts.

The Bulldogs, who improve to 1-0 overall on the year, earn their fifth-straight win over the Crusaders (1-2) dating back to the 2000-10 season.

On Saturday, all six Bulldogs in action were tremendous, not dropping a single set en route to the shutout win. The sophomore duo of Ryan Brown (Austin, Texas) and Marion Bouillin (San Diego, Calif.) posted a clean sheet at No. 1 doubles defeating Taylor Stathis and Jaclyn Carrol, 8-0, before earning wins at No. 1 and 2 singles, respectively. Brown's 6-2, 6-0 win over Stathis marked her first collegiate victory competing at No. 1 singles.

Freshmen duo Linnea Sjoberg (Stockholms län, Sweeden) and Ashanti Campfield (Statford, Conn.) and classmate Nina Luiggi (Nottingham, England) and sophomore Briana Leonard (Westford, Mass.) were also victorious in both doubles and singles competition. Sjoberg and Campfield blanked Katie Elia and Abigail Henry, 8-0, at the No. 2 position, while Sjoberg took down Cassy Deng, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 3 singles and Campfield defeated Isabel Bagi, 6-1, 6-1, in the No. 6 spot. Leonard and Luiggi topped Deng and Bagi, 8-4, at No. 3 doubles, earning wins in straight-sets at No. 4 and 5 singles, respectively.

The Black and Gold return to action over the weekend when they visit West Point, N.Y., for the Army Invitational.
