Sjoberg leads Bulldogs to weekend split vs. Brandeis and BC

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University women's tennis team split a pair of weekend matches taking down Brandeis, 6-1, Saturday before falling to #60 Boston College, 6-1, on Sunday.

On Saturday, the Bulldogs took care of Brandeis at Rally Point behind strong performances from top to bottom despite aggressive play by the Judges. At No. 1 singles, sophomore Ryan Brown (Austin, Texas) put together a come-from-behind win over Carley Cooke, 5-7, 6-3, 10-6,  to go along with straight-set victories from freshmen Linnea Sjoberg (Stockholms län, Sweeden) and Nina Luiggi (Nottingham, England), junior Briana Leonard (Westford, Mass.) and senior Rosie Bird (Hamilton, New Zealand).

In doubles action, Bird and partner Devlin-Ann Ammendola (Massapequa, N.Y.) made quick work of Dylan Schlesinger and Emily Eska, 6-1, at the No. 3 spot just before Sjoberg and classmate Ashanti Campfield (Stratford, Conn.) knocked off Simon Vandroff and Maya Vasser, 6-1, in the No. 2 spot to secure the point for the Bulldogs.

On Sunday, the Black and Gold ran into a very talented BC team, managing just a lone points against the host Eagles. At No. 3 singles, Sjoberg completed a perfect 2-0 weekend with a big time win over Emily Safron, 6-4, 6-2, to capture the only victory of the day for Bryant.

The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday (6:30 p.m.) when they host ASA College for the first of three-straight at Rally Point.
