Bulldogs drop tough one to LIU Brooklyn, 4-3, Friday

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University women's tennis team fell to LIU Brooklyn, 4-3, Friday afternoon at Rally Point.

In a rematch of the 2014 Northeast Conference Semifinals, the Bulldogs and Blackbirds battled it out in Bryant's first NEC action of the 2015 season.

In doubles action, the freshman tandem of Ashanti Campfield (Stratford, Conn.) and Linnea Sjoberg (Stockholms län, Sweeden) picked up the lone Bulldog victory, taking down Isabella Wagener and Brittany Thompson, 8-6 at the No. 2 spot.

In singles play, Sjoberg continued her stellar play on the court knocking off Caroli Koenigsfeldt, 4-6, 6-4, 7-5, at the No. 3 spot, while Campfield also completing the perfect 2-0 day with her fifth-straight singles win over Thompson, 6-0, 6-4, in the No. 6 position. Sophomore Briana Leonard (Westford, Mass.) improved to 5-2 overall at No. 4 singles, picking up the third and final point for the Black and Gold, defeating Wagener, 7-6, 6-1.

Looking ahead, Bryant will break from NEC play for over a month with matches vs. Hofstra on March 1 before heading to Orlando, Fla., for a trio of Spring Break contests.
