Bulldogs snap skid, close Spring Break with win over S. Dakota

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University women's tennis team snapped a five-game skid with a dramatic 4-3 victory over South Dakota Thursday afternoon in Orlando, Fla.

The Bulldogs (4-6) closed out their Spring Break week in Orlando on a high note with a 4-3 victory over South Dakota thanks to a match-clinching point from freshman Ashanti Campfield (Stratford, Conn.).

With the score all knotted up, 3-3, Campfield made quick work Yamini Reddy to secure the No. 6 singles matchup and the overall win for the Black and Gold with a 6-2, 6-1 victory.

In doubles action, the Bulldogs looked sharp, taking all three games including a 6-2 win for Ryan Brown (Austin, Texas) and Marion Bouillin (San Diego, Calif.) over Yuliya Sideno and Milica Pavlovic at No. 1 doubles. Brown and Bouillin rode the momentum into singles play, both earning straight-set victories at No. 1 and 2 singles, respectively, before Campfield ensured a Bryant win at the No. 6 spot.

"Closing out the week with the win was big," said Bryant head coach Barbara Cilli. "But if we are looking for continuous improvement with each match, there are still things that we can work on next time out."

Looking ahead, the Bulldogs will host Quinnipiac at the Bryant Tennis Courts in the first leg of a doubleheader at 11 a.m. The men will start at 1:30 p.m.
