#2 women's tennis makes quick work of #7 Wagner in NEC Quarterfinals

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Behind four straight-set victories, the second-seeded Bryant University women's tennis team knocked off #7 Wagner, 4-0, Friday morning in the opening round of the Northeast Conference Championships in West Windsor, N.J.

The Bulldogs advance to the NEC Semifinals for the second-straight year and will faceoff with third-seeded Saint Francis U. on Saturday (9 a.m.).

On Friday, sophomore Marion Bouillin (San Diego, Calif.) got things going with a 6-1 win over Samantha Hodges in the first set in No. 2 doubles. Bouillin went on to blank Hodges in the second set, 6-0, to give the Bulldogs the early 1-0 edge. Shortly after, freshman Linnea Sjoberg (Stockholms län, Sweeden) followed suit with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Madison Pautsch in the No. 3 spot to put Bryant up, 2-0.

Sophomore Ryan Brown (Austin, Texas) tallied the third point of the morning for the Black and Gold with a 6-2, 6-3 in the top singles spot over Marina Rull Valvieso and freshman Ashanti Campfield (Stratford, Conn.) secured the 4-0 sweep with a 6-0, 6-0 rout of Jenna Harris at No. 5 singles.

After a rainy Friday forced play indoors, the #2 Bulldogs will most likely be back outside on Saturday when they faceoff with the third-seeded Red Flash on 9 a.m. in semifinal round of the NEC Championships in West Windsor.
