Bulldogs win in-state battle, conquer Friars, 6-1, Thursday afternoon in Smithfield

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University women's tennis pushed its win streak to two after defeating in-state foe Providence College, 6-1, Thursday afternoon in Smithfield.

The Bulldogs (6-7, 2-0 NEC) dominated in doubles play, winning the point after juniors Ryan Brown (Austin, Texas) and Marion Bouillin (San Diego, Calif.) paired up to defeat the Friars' (7-7, 0-1 BIG East) No. 1 doubles pair, 6-3. Bryant's sophomores Stefanie Arroyo (Gurabo, Puerto Rico) and Linnea Sjoberg (Stockholm, Sweden) found their seventh victory in No. 3 doubles, beating Nicole Cyterski and Risa Takenaka, 6-4.

The Black and Gold continued to dominate in singles play, dropping their only point to PC in No. 4 singles, after Takenaka overcame junior Briana Leonard (Westford, Mass.), 6-2, 6-4. Brown tallied a point in No. 1 singles, trumping Alana Prinos, 6-3, 6-0, while Bouillin conquered Amanda Pitocco, 6-2, 6-3, in No. 2 singles. Sophomores Nina Luiggi (Nottingham, England) and Arroyo overpowered their competition in No. 5 and No. 6 singles, as Luiggi finished 6-0, 6-1 over Brooke Burnside and Arroyo held Katie Marvin scoreless, 6-0, 6-0, helping the Bulldogs to their 6-1 victory over the Friars.
