Brown's 3-0 mark at URI's Dual Invite helps Bryant to a 10-5 finish

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Despite the inclement weather this past Sunday, the Bryant University tennis team was still able to play day one of the URI Duals Invitational, where they squared off against Army, Monmouth and Providence, finishing 10-5.

Senior Ryan Brown (Austin, Texas) went 3-0 on the day, defeating Army's Rugile Valunaite, 6-3, 7-6 (8), and PC's Risa Takenaka, 6-1, 6-2, in singles before pairing with classmate Marion Bouillin (San Diego, Calif.) to hold Monmouth's Caroline Mattise and Chioma Gabriel scoreless, 8-0. Brown's win over Valunaite marks her second of the season, having defeated Valunaite at the Army Invite just a few weeks prior.

After winning the first set, 6-1, Bouillin fought off two match points from Army's Genevieve McCormick in the third set, but ultimately fell, 13-11 in the final set. Bouillin went on to finish with a 2-1 mark on the day.

"The team played well especially against Army at one and two," said head coach Barbara Cilli.

The Bulldogs finished 1-4 against Army, 4-1 against Monmouth and 5-0 against Providence.
