Campfield named NEC Player of the Week

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Helping the Bryant University women's tennis defeat NEC competitors Fairleigh Dickinson and Sacred Heart, junior Ashanti Campfield (Stratford, Conn.) was named NEC Player of the Week after going 3-1 over the weekend.

Campfield, a two-time first team All-NEC selection, helped Bryant pick up a pair of NEC victories last week. At No. 3 singles, she beat impressive FDU newcomer Marta Ruszczynska in three sets, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2, as Bryant defeated the defending NEC champions, 4-3, on Saturday. The following afternoon she collected a 6-4, 6-3 win at the No. 2 spot over Sacred Heart's Olivia Podsiebierski, a 2016 NEC All-Rookie honoree. Campfield, who also earned a No. 2 doubles win with Nina Luiggi (Nottingham, England) against SHU, improved to 3-1 in singles competition this spring.
