Oropeza, Boru sweep NEC weekly honors

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant University women's tennis sophomore Arianna Oropeza (Weston, Fla.) and freshman Ada Boru (Boca Raton, Fla.) swept the Northeast Conference weekly awards announced on Thursday.

Oropeza was named the NEC Player of the Week, while Boru earned NEC Rookie of the Week honors.

The reigning NEC Rookie of the Year was dominant in a 6-0, 6-2 win over Providence's Sera Satkowski in #3 singles action on Saturday. She also teamed with Leanne Kendall (Lakeville, Mass.) for a 6-3 triumph at #3 doubles as the Bulldogs rolled to a 7-0 victory over the Friars. Oropeza is now 6-2 in dual meet action and 10-4 overall this season after posting a 15-4 mark as a freshman.

Boru represents the future of the Bryant program with the Boca Raton, FL native taking on the #1 flight singles duties as a freshman. In Saturday's 7-0 win over Providence, she swept Risa Takenaka, 6-2, 6-1, and also picked up a 6-2 victory at #1 doubles along with Sarah Hickey (Toronto, Ont.).
