Bryant places four on All-NEC teams

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Freshman Ada Boru (Istanbul, Turkey) took home three All-Northeast Conference honors and the Bryant University women's tennis team received four total as the league announced it's all-league teams on Wednesday.

Boru was named First Team All-NEC in singles and doubles, and also earned NEC All-Rookie honors. Classmate Sarah Hickey (Toronto, Ont.) joined Boru on first team doubles and the all-rookie team, fellow freshman Leanne Kendall (Lakeville, Mass.) earned all-rookie honors and sophomore Arianna Oropeza (Weston, Fla.) earned All-NEC Second Team honors.

Bryant's No. 1 singles player, Boru finished the year at 8-12 overall, 5-8 at No. 1 singles and 3-1 against league opponents. She won her NEC quarterfinal match and was in a third set in the semis when the match went unfinished.

Boru teamed with Hickey as Bryant's No. 1 doubles team. The duo went 14-5 overall, 13-2 at No. 1 doubles and 4-1 against league opponents. Boru and Hickey's only two losses in dual matches came against LIU Brooklyn and UMass. They won both of their doubles matches in the NEC Tournament.

As a singles player, Hickey finished 9-13 overall, 7-10 in dual matches and 2-3 against league opponents. She played in each of the top three spots in the lineup, posting a 5-5 mark at No. 2.

Kendall went 12-11 overall, 8-9 in dual matches and 4-2 against league opponents in her first year in Smithfield. She was 4-2 at the No. 6 spot. Kendall earned a 6-0, 6-0 sweep in her quarterfinal match against Wagner.

Oropeza followed up her dynamite first year with another solid season in 2018-19. She won 15 matches for the second-straight year, finishing 15-9 overall, 11-7 in dual matches and 3-2 against league opponents. Oropeza was 6-1 at No.3 and also went 10-7 in doubles play.
