VOLLEYBALL FALLS TO TOLEDO 3-0 IN OPENER FRIDAY

BRYANT WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL OPENS SEASON WITH 3-0 LOSS TO TOLEDO
TOLEDO, OH - Maria Scocca tallied seven kills and added three blocks on the night, but it was not enough as the University of Toledo downed the Bryant University women's volleyball team 3-0 Friday evening in the Bulldog's season opener at the eighth annual Staybridge Suites Rocket Classic. Game scores in the match were 25-17, 25-15, 25-17.
Scocca, a 6-foot-2 middle from Melrose, MA hit .375 offensively for the match with a team-best seven kills on 16 swings. Sophomore Jazmin Stoner (Durango, CO) and Macy Mitravich (Waimanalo, HI) each had four kills. Stoner paced the Bulldogs defensively with nine digs in the match.
Senior co-captain Julie Geonnotti (St. Louis Park, MN) had nine kills to go with 12 assists.
Toledo was led by Amber DeWeert, last year's MAC Freshman of the Year, who had 10 kills and 13 digs.
The Bulldogs will close out the tournament with a pair of games Saturday when they face Kennesaw State at noon and Marist College at 5 pm.
