Double-doubles vault Bulldogs to win

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Junior Jazmin Stoner (Durango, Colo.) broke out for a big day Wednesday night at Quinnipiac, posting 16 kills and 17 digs to lead the Bryant University volleyball team to a 3-1 road win, while rookie teammate Kaitlyn Klein (Modesto, Calif.) echoed the performance with a double-double of her own.

Klein added 13 digs to her 12 kills and was one of three Bulldogs to record double-digit kills, joined by Stoner and classmate Mariah Burgess (Urbana, Ill.), who put forth a stellar performance of her own with a .500 attack percentage on 22 swings without a single error.

Three of Wednesday's four sets went to extra points, and Quinnipiac (6-22, 4-10 Northeast Conference) came out on the winning end of the first, 27-5, to take a 1-0 edge. The Bulldogs (18-16, 5-10) needed a 29-27 victory to even the score before taking a lead they wouldn't relinquish in the third frame, 25-14. But the eventual win wouldn't come easily, as Bryant again needed extra time to get the W in the fourth, 27-25, for the 3-1 match victory.

Senior captain Robyn Gardner (Longwood, Fla.) paced the Bulldogs defensively with 18 digs, while sophomore setter Jadith Lorenzo (Lawrence, Mass.) put up 38 assists and five blocks. But it was freshman Alexandria Clyburn (Cartersville, Ga.) who led the Bulldogs at the net, collecting six blocks on the evening to pace the team's 23 stuffs.

Taylor Payne led the match with 19 kills for the Bobcats, while Kayla Lawler put up an impressive 52 helpers. Tracey Wright collected a match-best 24 digs.

The Bulldogs return to the Chace Athletic Center in search of one final win, as Bryant takes on St. Francis (NY) in the season finale Sunday, Nov. 14.
