Stoner travels to NCAA Symposium

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant University junior Jazmin Stoner (Durango, Colo.), an outside hitter on the Bulldogs' volleyball team, recently experienced an opportunity not too many student-athletes could ever encounter. Stoner participated in the annual two-day NCAA Women's leadership Symposium earlier this semester in San Antonio, Texas.

The Women's Leadership Symposium was designed as an educational experience for professional women new to working in intercollegiate athletics administration and coaching, but also allows students aspiring for a career in athletics to network and learn about what it takes to be a leader.

"Being just one of three student-athletes on hand at the event, I felt honored and privileged to not only represent myself but also Bryant athletics," said Stoner. "I can honestly say it was one of the best experiences I had from a networking aspect, being able to meet and talk with leaders of college athletics from around the nation was something that will help hopefully me start a career in college athletics after graduation."

Part of the daily activities included working with others on developing leadership skills while sharpening both verbal and written communication skills. The symposium also put a large emphasis on practicing different management strategies and career advancement.

"We had multiple opportunities to sit and talk about career paths with speakers from the event on top of participating in networking receptions," added Stoner. "It is an event that I would highly recommend to anyone aspiring for a career in intercollegiate athletics or someone who is already in the field but looks for advancement."
