Bulldogs snap streak with 3-1 win

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Senior co-captains Maria Scocca (Melrose, Mass.) and Jazmin Stoner (Durango, Colo.) led the match with 14 kills apiece Saturday while Scocca also put up a match-best seven blocks to pace the Bryant University volleyball team to a 3-1 win over Northeast Conference for St. Francis (NY) on the road.

Bryant (10-15, 4-6 NEC) needed just one extra set – a third frame the Terriers (1-25, 0-10) won, 25-22 – to take the road victory, and got strong performances out of sophomore Kendall Gaffney (Colorado Springs, Colo.), with nine kills, nine digs and four blocks, and classmate Mikayla LaRosa (Marysville, Wash.), who earned her first start at libero for the Bulldogs and picked up a contest-high 17 digs.

As a team, the Bulldogs put up 25 blocks to St. Francis (NY)'s 15, while the Terriers saw nine service aces, led by three apiece from Feliz Ramirez and Marina Georgieva. Bryant got five aces on the day, two from sophomore Leigh Fishback (Edmonds, Wash.), who added 13 assists and five digs. Junior Jadith Lorenzo (Lawrence, Mass.) dished out 31 helpers to go along with an ace, six digs and four kills on the outing.

The Terriers were led by Georgieva's 12 kills and 13 digs, one of three St. Francis double-doubles on the afternoon. Naomi Flinders (10k, 11d) and Kamalei Clifton (match-high 35 assists, 10 digs) also added double-doubles, while Ramirez led the home side with 16 digs on the day.

Bryant returns home for its next contest and will host Central Connecticut in a league matchup Sunday at 5 p.m.
