Volleyball Downed by LIU 3-0

Bryant Volleyball Falls to LIU 3-0 Saturday

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The Bryant University women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 Northeast Conference match at Long Island University Saturday afternoon in Brooklyn, NY.  Game scores were 25-18, 25-19, 25-23.

Bryant (13-18, 7-8 NEC) was led by Jazmin Stoner's (Durango, Colo.) team-high 14 kills and five digs.  The senior had a strong day offensively hitting .355 for the match with only three errors on 31 swings.

Senior middle Maria Scocca (Melrose, Mass.) and sophomore Kaitlyn Klein (Modesto, Calif.) each added five kills for the Bulldogs who hit just .112 offensively on the day.

Long Island (19-12, 13-2 NEC), which entered the game tied atop the NEC standings with Sacred Heart, was led by Hanna Gibeau's 20 kills and 10 digs to go with her .529 hitting percentage.

The Bulldogs played a strong third set and used a 5-0 spurt keyed by a Klein kill and Scocca service aces to take a 17-16 lead.  Late in the set, another kill by Scocca helped stave off match-point for the Blackbirds and pull the visitors to within 24-23, but a Gibeau kill put the match away for LIU.

Bryant will wrap up the 2011 season Sunday with a conference match at Fairleigh Dickinson (3 pm).
