Volleyball signs four-member Class of 2016

Bulldogs add two setters, a middle blocker and an outside hitter to arsenal for 2012 season

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant University head volleyball coach Theresa Garlacy is pleased to announce the addition of four student-athletes set to join the Bulldogs in the fall of 2012. Four incoming recruits from four different states signed on to join the Class of 2016 and will suit up for the Bulldogs in 2012.

The Bryant University volleyball Class of 2016:

Claire Van Dyk | 5-11 | Outside Hitter | New Richmond, Wis./Hill-Murray High School (Minn.)
Van Dyk was a three-year starter and four-year varsity letterwinner at Hill-Murray in Maplewood, Minn. ... Led the Pioneers to three-straight Classic Suburban Conference titles from 2009-2011, going a perfect 14-0 and finishing as the Section 4AAA runner up as a junior and senior ... Three-time all-conference pick ... Led her conference in kills as a junior with 355 ... Selected by MN Breakdown Magazine as a 2010 Elite Underclassmen for 2012 and a 2011 Super Senior ... Voted Most Inspirational in 2010 ... Senior captain ... Set the Hill-Murray record for aces in a season (62) and in a career ... Also a three-year varsity letterwinner in basketball, where she led her team to back-to-back conference championships, Section 4AAA titles and Class AAA State title games as a sophomore and junior ... All-conference, all-state tournament team, all-state honorable mention and St. Paul Pioneer Press Player of the Week selections as a junior in 2010-11 ... Senior captain in 2011-12 ... Selected by MN Breakdown Magazine as one of the Top 30 Players in 2012 ... Honor Roll student ... Sister plays basketball at Augsburg College.

Taylor Onoyan | 6-0 | Middle Blocker | Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge High School
Onoyan was a three-year varsity starter and letterwinner for the Wolves ... Led Prairie Ridge to the Fox Valley Conference Championship and the regional title as a sophomore in 2009 ... Named an all-conference and all-area selection as a junior ... Led the Wolves in blocks as both a junior and senior and in hitting percentage as a senior ... 2011 Team MVP ... Finished her Prairie Ridge career second all-time in career attack percentage and had 407 kills with 243 blocks in three years of varsity action ... National Honor Society and Spanish National Honor Society member ... High Honor Roll student ... Father played football at Brown from 1983-86.

 

 

Jana Kmec | 5-8 | Setter/Defensive Specialist | Stratford, Conn./Bunnell High School
Kmec was a four-year varsity starter and letterwinner for the Bulldogs of Bunnell High School ... Led team to back-to-back second-place Southwest Conference finishes ... Three-time All-Southwest Conference selection as a sophomore, junior and senior ... CHSCA All-State pick in 2010 and 2011 ... 2010 SWC All-Tournament Team selection ... Four-time Southwest Conference All-Academic Team ... Also a three-year varsity letterwinner in softball at Bunnell, where she was named a two-time SWC All-Colonial Division pick, was given the 2009 Most Improved Award, earned a CHSCA Junior All-Star Game selection and was a three-time all-conference academic team choice ... 2011 Academic Achievement Award honoree ... National Honor Society and Spanish National Honor Society member ... First Honors student.

 

Jordan Thornlow | 5-7 | Setter | Colorado Springs, Colo./Rampart High School
Thornlow was a three-year varsity starter and letterwinner for the Rams ... Named a Colorado Springs Metro 5A League Honorable Mention as a junior in 2010 ... Earned three academic letters ... Mountain Climbing 14 teener club ... Father, Chris, is originally from Rhode Island ... 2010 First Team CHSAA All-Academic pick ... International Baccalaureate Program ... National Honor Society member.
