LIU tops Bulldogs, 3-0, Saturday

BULLDOGS FALL TO BLACKBIRDS ON ROAD, 3-0, SATURDAY

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Annika Foit recorded 14 kills to lead LIU Brooklyn to a 3-0 win over the Bryant University volleyball team Saturday afternoon on the road.

Freshman Claire Van Dyk (New Richmond, Wis.) led the Bulldogs (7-15, 1-5 Northeast Conference) with seven kills while junior Kendall Gaffney (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and senior Emily Kaup (Chandler, Ariz.) each registered five for the Black and Gold. Mia Radisic added nine kills for the host Blackbirds (14-7, 7-0), who stayed undefeated in conference play with the three-set victory.

Adriana Vinas Joy posted a match-high nine digs with Vera Djuric pacing the home side and the contest with 31 assists. Sophomore Elena Lohr (Loveland, Ohio) put up five digs to lead the visitors, while rookie Jana Kmec (Stratford, Conn.) recorded eight assists for Bryant.

LIU outblocked the visitors, 7-2, with Jessica Rice registering six stuffs to compliment eight kills. Djuric chipped in four more block assists, while Foit's three aces marked a match best.

The Blackbirds hit .494 as a team, making just six attack errors with 44 kills. The home team outdug its opponent, 28-21.

The Bulldogs remain on the road for their next Northeast Conference contest, facing off against St. Francis (NY) Sunday at 1 p.m. Bryant topped the Terriers last time these teams met, Sept. 8 at the Kaiser Classic. Junior Alexandria Clyburn (Carterville, Ga.) led the Black and Gold with 13 kills in the win.
