GAFFNEY AND LOHR NAMED VOLLEYBALL CAPTAINS FOR 2013

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Junior Kendall Gaffney (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and sophomore Elena Lohr (Loveland, Ohio) have been named the two captains for the 2013 Bryant University volleyball team, head coach Theresa Garlacy announced on Tuesday.

Coming off a sixth-place finish in the Northeast Conference standings, Gaffney and Lohr will be charged with guiding the Bulldogs to their first postseason tournament since moving to Division I. Gaffney will return for her senior season in the fall and will look to rebound from an injury-plagued 2012. Despite appearing in just 29 matches (90 sets), Gaffney was still able to put up 82 kills, 13 service aces and 22 total blocks. Gaffney posted over 200 kills in each of her first two seasons and will return as one of Bryant's main contributors at the net next fall. A versatile player, Lohr contributed as both an outside hitter and a defensive specialist in 2012. She led the team with 325 digs, while also adding 54 kills, 43 assists and 21 service aces. In her two-year career, Lohr is averaging over three digs per game.

The Bulldogs finished 12-21 overall and 6-10 in the NEC in 2012. Bryant has won at least six matches in three of its four years in the NEC.
