Bryant falls to Fairfield, 3-0, at BC Invite

BULLDOGS FALL TO STAGS, 3-0, IN FINAL MATCH OF BC INVITATIONAL

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University volleyball team saw senior Kaitlyn Klein (Modesto, Calif.) record 10 kills and drop in a trio of aces, but it wasn't enough to get the Bulldogs their first win of the season, falling to Fairfield, 3-0, in the final match of the Boston College Invitational.

Klein posted a .318 attack percentage and added a block to her team-leading effort, while sophomore outside hitter Claire Van Dyk (New Richmond, Wis.) added six kills and 10 digs. Junior libero Elena Lohr (Loveland, Ohio) paced the Bulldogs (0-6) on defense with 11 dogs, while sophomore Jana Kmec (Stratford, Conn.) handed out a match-best 28 assists with seven digs and a block. Kmec would earn the first all-tournament team honor of her career at the weekend's end, amassing 90 assists (9.00 per set) with 15 digs and three blocks.

The Bulldogs trumped the Stags (2-5) on the dig as a unit, 47-43, but it was Fairfield that dominated on the block, putting up 13 in total, paced by three apiece from Caitlin Stapleton and Lindsay Weaver. Stapleton posted a contest-high 13 kills as well. Carsen Mata led the outing with 12 digs, while setter Rachel Romansky served up four aces to compliment 27 assists and a pair of kills.

Bryant saw freshman Carissa Gould (Woonsocket, R.I.) pick up two aces and add a trio of digs while classmates Mallory Wilczynski (Cary, Ill.) and Sara DePouw (Oconto, Wis.) added seven and six kills, respectively.

The Bulldogs return to action Tuesday, Sept. 10 when they travel to the University of New Hampshire for a 7:00 p.m. matchup.
