Magalhaes Recognized at ICC Dinner

SMITHFIELD, RI - The Intercultural Center at Bryant University continued a tradition with its 15th annual Senior Awards Banquet on April 16.  Senior volleyball standout Debora Magalhaes (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) was the recipient of both the ICC Jim Thorpe Athletic Award and the Benjamin Banneker Award for Academic Excellence.

Magalhaes, an all-conference second team libero selection, re-wrote the program's Division I record books despite playing just two seasons in Smithfield, leaving the school as the team's DI leader in digs (1359) and digs per set (5.41).

A four-time NEC Defensive Player of the Week, Magalhaes was twice named ECAC Libero of the Week and was recognized for her outstanding work in the classroom as she was named a CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-District selection.  She was the starting libero in all 33 matches for the Bulldogs and one of three players to appear in all 124 sets in leading Bryant to its first NEC Conference Tournament appearance.
