Bulldogs travel to Boston College for weekend invitational

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Bryant University volleyball team travels to Boston for the second weekend of nonconference play, as the Bulldogs square off with North Texas, Boston College and Princeton at the BC Invitational.

The Particulars

Opponents: North Texas (Friday), Boston College (Friday), Princeton (Saturday)

Time: North Texas – 1 p.m., Boston College – 7:30 p.m., Princeton – 2 p.m.

Tournament Field

  • The Bulldogs will face North Texas of Conference USA and host Boston College of the ACC Friday before squaring off with defending Ivy League champion Princeton Saturday.

Bulldogs Notes and Notables

  • The Bulldogs enter the weekend coming off a midweek victory over Quinnipiac in Tuesday's home opener. Junior Grace Richmeyer (DeSoto, Mo.) tallied a career-high 18 kills while junior Julia Flynn (Pembroke, Mass.) added 13 kills and a career-high 20 digs.
  • With Tuesday's win, Bryant improved to 25-3 since the start of 2015 at Chace Athletic Center.
  • Flynn has posted at least 10 kills and 11 digs in all three matches this season in which she has played.
  • Freshman Erika Ward (Rochester, Mich.) was named NEC Rookie of the Week Tuesday and leads the conference with 5.64 digs per set.
  • Three of the top 10 players in the NEC in digs are Bulldogs, as Ward is joined by Flynn (4.09) and junior Kirstyn Sperry (Phoenix, Ariz.) (3.64). The Black and Gold lead the NEC in digs per set at 18.64.

A bit about North Texas

  • The Mean Green went 2-1 in its home tournament with wins over Tulsa and Montana before a loss to Texas Tech. Amanda Chamberlain was named Conference USA Player of the Week with 4.55 kills per set and a .575 hitting percentage.

A bit about Boston College

  • The Eagles are home for the second consecutive weekend to open 2017, as Boston College fell to Fairfield and Providence before a four-set win over UAB. Cat Balido leads Boston College with 2.91 kills per set.

A bit about Princeton

  • The Tigers open the season this weekend after a 19-5 campaign in 2016 that included an Ivy League title. Princeton graduates two-time Ivy League Player of the Year Cara Mattaliano but returns a group that includes Ivy Co-Rookie of the Year Maggie O'Connell.
